Iced Coffee Cozy Crochet Pattern

Say goodbye to drippy cups and cold fingers with this iced coffee cozy crochet pattern – the perfect quick and easy Summer project.

I’ve recently become obsessed with iced coffee so of course I had to make a cute little cozy for my cup.

A coffee cozy is pretty simple so when I was brainstorming ideas, I knew that I wanted to create interest with a fun stitch.

After trialing a few different options, I settled on the arcade stitch. I love the openwork look, while still having plenty of coverage to insulate my hands and absorb moisture, and the pretty scalloped edge around the top.

I designed this coffee cozy crochet pattern specifically to fit my 16 oz (473 ml) glass can and since it encapsulates the whole cup, it’s a cozy and coaster in one!

It also has an optional tie which when pulled tight turns the cozy into a cute little gift bag – add a Starbucks gift card and some small treats for a quick and easy gift.

About the Pattern

This coffee cozy crochet pattern is crocheted in joined rounds from the bottom up. The body of the cozy is worked using the arcade stitch which consists of a two round repeat. It uses basic stitches to create an open arch pattern, and is finished with an optional tie.

Recommended Yarn

Cotton is my go-to for projects like this as it’s durable, absorbent and easy to wash.

For this pattern, I’ve used worsted weight yarn with a 4mm hook.

Adjusting the Size

The easiest way to resize this crochet coffee cozy pattern is to use thicker yarn and a larger hook and vice versa. If you want to play with the stitch count, in order for the arcade stitch to work, the stitch count for the final increase round needs to be a multiple of 6.

Materials

• Worsted weight yarn, approximately 34g (I used Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran in Pansy Purple and Dolphin Blue for the cozies pictured)
• 4mm crochet hook
• Yarn needle, scissors
• Optional: small wooden beads, a 1.5mm crochet hook (or hook that’s small enough to fit through the centre of your chosen beads) and clear drying fabric glue

• sc – single crochet
• sk – skip
• sl st – slip stitch

Finished Size

The finished coffee cozy measures approximately 4.5″ x 5.25″ (11.5 cm x 13.5 cm). Size may vary depending on tension and materials used.

Gauge

3″ (8cm) across after R5. Double check the fit after completing R8.

Notes

• This pattern is worked in joined rounds.
• The chain 1 at the beginning of each round does not count as a stitch. Join to the first stitch of the current round and work the first stitch of the next round in the same stitch as joining.
• The starting stitch shifts each round to maintain the pattern.
• You can easily make the coffee cozy taller or shorter by working more or less rounds of the repeat.

Make a magic ring.

R1: Ch 1, 10 hdc in magic ring, sl st to first hdc to join (10)

R2: Ch 1, [hdc-inc] x10, sl st to first hdc to join (20)

R3: Ch 1, [hdc, hdc-inc] x10, sl st to first hdc to join (30)

R4: Ch 1, hdc, hdc-inc, [2 hdc, hdc-inc] x9, hdc, sl st to first hdc to join (40)

R5: Ch 1, 2 hdc, hdc-inc, [4 hdc, hdc-inc] x7, 2 hdc, sl st to first hdc to join (48)

R6: Ch 1, [hdc] x48, sl st to first hdc to join (48)

R7: Ch 1, sc in same st and next 2 sts, ch 3, [sk next 3 sts, sc in next 3 sts, ch 3] x7, sl st to first sc to join

R8: Sl st in next st, ch 1, sc in same st, [sk next st, 7 dc into the ch-3 space, sk next st, sc in next st] x7, sk next st, 7 dc into the last ch-3 space, sk last st, sl st to first sc to join

R9: Sl st in next 3 sts, ch 1, sc in same st and next 2 sts, ch 3, [sk next 5 sts, sc in next 3 sts, ch 3] x7, sk last 5 sts, sl st to first sc to join

R10-18: Repeat R8 and R9

Fasten off invisibly to first sc and weave in ends.

Tie (optional)

Ch 100 or until your chain measures approximately 22″ (56 cm) long.

Fasten off and tighten the last chain into a knot.

Starting at the front, weave the tie through the open spaces at the top of the cozy.

To add the beads, you’ll need a crochet hook that’s small enough to fit through the center of your chosen beads.

Insert the hook through the bead. Place the tail end of the yarn over the hook and pull through the bead.

I added two beads to each end of the tie but you can use more or less.

To finish off the end, tie a double knot as close to the beads as possible. Make sure that the knot is large enough that the beads won’t fall off.

Weave the remaining yarn tail through the beads catching some of the knot and chain on each end. Cut the end close to the beads and add some fabric glue to the knot for extra security.
