Crochet Mistletoe Applique

Materials

  • DK weight yarn in green and white (I used Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Slate Green and Paper White)
  • 2.5mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle, scissors

Abbreviations (US Terms)

  • ch – chain
  • dc – double crochet
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • sc – single crochet
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • st/s – stitch/es
  • tr – treble crochet
  • […] – repeat the instructions in brackets
  • (…) – indicates stitch count at end of round

Special Stitches

Puff Stitch: [Yarn over, insert hook in st, yarn over and pull through] x3, you should have 7 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all 7 loops. Ch 1 to close the st.

Finished Size

The finished applique measures approximately 1.75″ x 1.5″ (4.5cm x 4cm). Size may vary depending on tension and materials used.

Gauge

Gauge is not important in this pattern. However, using a different yarn and hook size will change the size of the finished item.

Notes

  • The final stitch of the second leaf is worked into the front loop and left leg of the last single crochet from the first leaf.

Pattern Instructions

Mistletoe (green)

Ch 15, tr in 4th ch from hook, tr in next ch, dc in next 2 chs, hdc in next 2 chs, sc in next ch.

Ch 9, tr in 4th ch from hook, tr in next ch, dc in next 2 chs, hdc in next 2 chs, sc in last ch.

Sc in the front loop and left leg of the last sc from the first leaf.

Sl st back on starting ch and in remaining 4 chs.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Berry Cluster (white)

[Ch 2, puff st in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in same ch from back to front] x3 (3 puff sts)

Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.

Finishing

  • Gently shape the leaves if necessary so that they lie flat.
  • Sew or glue the berry cluster to the mistletoe at the base of the leaves where they start to separate.
