About the Pattern

This crochet Christmas wreath applique is made up of 2 rounds with the final round being a fun textured edging.

The trick here is to not draw the magic circle all the way closed. I like to place my wreath on the end of a pencil to get a nice even circle.

  • DK weight yarn in green and a small amount of red (I used Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Slate Green and Pillar Red)
  • 2.5mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle, scissors

Abbreviations (US Terms)

  • ch – chain
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • st/s – stitch/es
  • […] – repeat the instructions in brackets
  • (…) – indicates stitch count at end of round

Finished Size

The finished applique measures approximately 1″ x 1″ (2.5cm x 2.5cm). Size may vary depending on tension and materials used.

Gauge

Gauge is not important in this pattern. However, using a different yarn and hook size will change the size of the finished item.

Notes

  • The pattern is worked in joined rounds starting with a magic ring. The chain at the beginning of R1 does not count as a stitch. Work the first stitch of the next round in the same stitch as joining.

Pattern Instructions

Wreath (green)

Make a magic ring.

R1: Ch 1, 15 hdc in magic ring, join with sl st to first hdc (15) – don’t pull the ring closed all the way. You want to leave a hole for the centre of the wreath.

R2: Ch 1, sl st in same st, [ch 1, sl st in next st] x14

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Thread some red yarn through a couple of stitches at the bottom of the wreath and tie in a bow. Trim ends.
