Day 3 of the 12 Days of Crochet Christmas is this cosy little mitten ornament crochet pattern. Despite enjoying a Summer Christmas here in New Zealand, I still love all the wintery things.
The thumb and lower part of the hand are worked separately before being joined together. I kept my embellishments simple but you can totally get creative here.

The thumb is worked separately and then joined to the hand section.
THUMB (mitten colour)
R1: 4 sc in magic ring (4)

R11: With the hand still on your hook, join the thumb and hand together by making a sc in the first st of the thumb piece. Crochet a further 7 sc around the thumb. Sc back onto the hand section and make a further 19 sc around ( 8 sc + 20 sc = 28)
R12: [Sc] x28 (28)

R14: [11 sc, invdec] x2 (24)

R18: Sl st to first st, ch 2, dc in same st. [Dc] x17 (18)
Fasten off invisibly to first dc (the ch 2 does not count as a st) and weave in ends.
Using an accent colour and starting at the front, weave the yarn between single sts between R17 and R18. Tie in a bow at the front and trim ends.
Attach a hanging loop.
