Mitten Ornament Crochet Pattern

Day 3 of the 12 Days of Crochet Christmas is this cosy little mitten ornament crochet pattern. Despite enjoying a Summer Christmas here in New Zealand, I still love all the wintery things.

Red crocheted mitten with a white bow lying on a wood round.

This little mitten ornament crochet pattern is just too cute. Use as a gift topper, tree decoration or make them into a cosy garland or advent calendar.

About the Pattern

This is a quick and easy pattern with no sewing. The thumb and lower part of the hand are worked separately before being joined together.

I kept my embellishments simple but you can totally get creative here.

Finished Size

The finished mitten measures approximately 2.5″ (6.5cm) long. Size may vary depending on tension and materials used.

Gauge

Gauge is not important in this pattern. However, using a different yarn and hook size will change the size of the finished item.

Notes

  • Pieces are worked in a continuous spiral starting with a magic ring unless otherwise specified. Mark the first stitch of each round with a removable stitch marker.
  • The thumb is worked separately and then joined to the hand section.

LET’S GET STARTED!

Thumb (mitten colour)

R1: 4 sc in magic ring (4)

R2: [Inc] x4 (8)

R3-5: [Sc] x8 (8) 3 rounds

Fasten off invisibly and weave in end.

Hand (mitten colour)

R1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)

R2: [Inc] x6 (12)

R3: [Sc, inc] x6 (18)

R4: 4 sc, inc, 8 sc, inc, 4 sc (20)

R5-10: [Sc] x20 (20) 6 rounds

Do NOT fasten off.

Joining

R11: With the hand still on your hook, join the thumb and hand together by making a sc in the first st of the thumb piece. Crochet a further 7 sc around the thumb. Sc back onto the hand section and make a further 19 sc around ( 8 sc + 20 sc = 28)

Attach a hanging loop.
