Mini No-Sew Candy Apple Crochet Pattern

Are you looking for a quick and easy Halloween/Fall project? This no-sew candy apple crochet pattern might be just the ticket.

I don’t know why I decided to crochet a mini candy apple. I just thought it’d be cute and fun plus easy to make no-sew which is always a win.

You could even add a face for extra cute factor.

About the Pattern

This candy apple crochet pattern is quick and easy with no sewing of parts.

The stick is crocheted directly onto the top of the apple and we will use the yarn tail from the apple to add some simple shaping.

Change up the colour and you can make a caramel apple too!

Yarn Choice

I went with my all time favourite yarn for amigurumi, Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK. However, feel free to experiment.

I’d love to see this candy apple made with super bulky yarn.

How to Gift this Candy Apple

This candy apple crochet pattern would make such a fun Halloween gift idea for a teacher or for kids to give to their friends.

Simply wrap the apple in some cellophane and secure with twine or ribbon.

Finished Size

The finished candy apple measures approximately 2.75″ (7cm) tall. Size may vary depending on tension and materials used.

Gauge

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Use a hook size to match your chosen yarn. Make sure that your stitches are tight enough to prevent stuffing showing through and adjust hook size if necessary.

Notes

  • Pieces are worked in a continuous spiral starting with a magic ring unless otherwise specified. Mark the first stitch of each round with a removable stitch marker.
  • R2 of the apple is worked in the back loop only.

Pattern Instructions

Apple (starting with green)

R1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)

R2: BLO [inc] x6 (12)

R3: [Sc, inc] x6 (18)

R4: Sc, inc, [2 sc, inc] x5, sc (24)

R5: [3 sc, inc] x6 (30) – change colour to red in last st

R6-10: [Sc] x30 (30) 5 rounds

R11: [3 sc, invdec] x6 (24)

R12-13: [Sc] x24 (24) 2 rounds

R14: Sc, invdec, [2 sc, invdec] x5, sc (18)

R15: [Sc, invdec] x6 (12)

Stuff.

Tip: Use the end of your crochet hook to push the stuffing in.

Avoid over stuffing. You can get a general idea of what the shape of your apple will be like by compressing it between your finger and thumb.

R16: [Invdec] x6 (6)

Cut the yarn leaving a long tail of approximately 30cm and pull through last st. Weave the yarn tail through the front loops only of the final round and pull to close.

Bring the yarn needle up through the centre of the apple and out through the centre of the magic ring. Pull gently to create an indent and flatten the bottom. Insert needle back into the apple, bringing it out through any st between R15 and R16.

Do not cut the yarn tail. Move on to crocheting the stick.

Stick (beige)

Note: The stick is unstuffed. However, if you’re using different materials, you may want to stuff it lightly as you go.

Join yarn to first leftover front loop from R2 of the apple.

R1: Ch 1, sc in same space. Sc in each front loop around (6)

R2-12: [Sc] x6 (6) 11 rounds

Cut the yarn leaving a tail and pull through last st. Weave the yarn tail through the front loops only of the final round and pull to close. Hide the end inside the stick.

Shaping

To indent the top of the apple further and make it appear as though the stick is embedded in the apple, we’ll be using the long yarn tail from the apple to add some additional shaping.

Bring the yarn needle up through the apple and out of a st right next to the base of the stick. Bring the needle back down a single st over and out the bottom of the apple. Pull tightly until the st is no longer visible.

Note: the first stitch will pull the stick to that side. Make your next stitch on the opposite side to straighten it.

Repeat 3-4 times around the base of the stick or as needed.

Tie a piece of twine or ribbon around the stick between R5 and R6.
