Materials

  • DK weight yarn in orange and green (I used Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Blood Orange and Grass Green)
  • 2.5mm crochet hook
  • Polyester fiberfill
  • Brown embroidery floss
  • Stitch marker, yarn needle, scissors

  • ch – chain
  • sc – single crochet
  • inc – increase
  • invdec – invisible decrease
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • st/s – stitch/es
  • […] – repeat the instructions in brackets
  • (…) – indicates stitch count at end of round

Finished Size

The finished carrot measures approximately 3.25” (8.5cm) long. Size may vary depending on tension and materials used.

Gauge

Gauge is not important in this pattern. However, using a different yarn and hook size will change the size of the finished

Notes

  • Pieces are worked in a continuous spiral starting with a magic ring unless otherwise specified. Mark the first stitch of each round with a removable stitch marker.

Carrot (orange)

R1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)

R2: [Sc] x6 (6)

R3: [Sc, inc] x3 (9)

R4-5: [Sc] x9 (9) 2 rounds

R6: Sc, inc, [2 sc, inc] x2, sc (12)

R7-8: [Sc] x12 (12) 2 rounds

R9: [3 sc, inc] x3 (15)

R10-11: [Sc] x15 (15) 2 rounds

R12: 2 sc, inc, [4 sc, inc] x2, 2 sc (18)

R13-14: [Sc] x18 (18) 2 rounds

R15: [5 sc, inc] x3 (21)

R16-17: [Sc] x21 (21) 2 rounds

Start stuffing and continue to stuff as you go.

R18: [Sc, invdec] x7 (14)

R19: [Invdec] x7 (7)

Cut the yarn leaving a tail and pull through last st. Weave the yarn tail through the front loop only of the final round and pull to close. Hide the end inside the carrot.

Using a single strand of brown embroidery floss doubled, randomly sew horizontal lines spanning over 2 sts to resemble the lines on a carrot.

Carrot Top (green)

R1: Ch 11, sl st in 8th ch from hook, ch 7, sl st back in same ch. Sl st in next 3 chs. Ch 11, sl st in 8th ch from hook, ch 7, sl st back in same ch. Sl st in next 3 chs, sl st in starting ch.

Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.

Sew to the top of the carrot.
