Easy Crochet Star Coaster Pattern

Looking for a fun project to brighten up your coffee table? This easy crochet star coaster is the perfect blend of cute and functional.

This crochet star coaster comes together in just a few rounds, so whether you’re a beginner wanting to try something new or you’re looking for a satisfying stash-buster, this pattern is quick and easy.

When I shared my small crochet star pattern a few years ago, one of the questions I got asked was, how can I make it into a coaster?

Well, I’m finally getting around to sharing how and it’s easier than you think.

About the Pattern

This crochet star coaster is worked in a spiral without joining.

We’ll begin by making 6 single crochet in a magic ring and then we’ll increase over the next 4 rounds to create a flat circle.

The final round is when we’ll create the points of our star using a combination of stitches of varying heights.

Recommended Yarn

I always recommend cotton yarn for coasters as it’s durable, absorbent, holds up well to heat and is easy to wash – all the things that you want in a crochet coaster.

For this pattern, I’ve used 2 strands of worsted weight yarn held together with a 6mm hook which gives the coasters a nice size and thickness.

You can do this by using 2 separate skeins of yarn or a single skein and pull yarn from both the inside and the outside.

Does this Crochet Star Coaster Need Blocking?

I did not block my coasters but you are more than welcome to do so. If your coaster is a little misshapen once finished, blocking can help you achieve a more defined shape and pointier tips.

For easy blocking, pin the coaster to shape on a blocking mat, spray with water and let dry.
