Candy Ornament Crochet Pattern

Day 5 of the 12 Days of Crochet Christmas is a fun little candy ornament crochet pattern.

These candies are so quick and easy to make. Whip up a bunch for the tree, fill a bowl for a cute centrepiece or make a garland out of them.

This candy ornament crochet pattern is quick, easy and no-sew (bar a few pesky ends to hide).

The instructions below are for the red and white striped candy but they would look equally cute in solid colours.

Finished Size

The finished candy measures approximately 2.5″ (6.5cm) long. Size may vary depending on tension and materials used.

Gauge

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Use a hook size to match your chosen yarn. Make sure that your stitches are tight enough to prevent stuffing showing through and adjust hook size if necessary.

Notes

  • Pieces are worked in a continuous spiral starting with a magic ring unless otherwise specified. Mark the first stitch of each round with a removable stitch marker.
  • All colour changes take place in the last yarn over of the previous colour.

LET’S GET STARTED!

Candy (starting in red)

R1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)

R2: BLO [inc] x6 (12) – change to white in last st

R3: [Sc, inc] x6 (18)

R4: Sc, inc, [2 sc, inc] x5, sc (24) – change to red in last st

R5-6: [Sc] x24 (24) 2 rounds change to white in last st of R6

R7-8: [Sc] x24 (24) 2 rounds change to red in last st of R8

R9-10: [Sc] x24 (24) 2 rounds change to white in last st of R10

R11: Sc, invdec, [2 sc, invdec] x5, sc (18)

Start stuffing and continue to stuff as you go.

R12: [Sc, invdec] x6 (12) – change to red in last st

R13: [Invdec] x6 (6)

Cut the yarn leaving a tail and pull through last st. Weave the yarn tail through the back loops only of the final round and pull to close. Hide the end inside the candy.

Candy Ends (red)

Join yarn in the first leftover front loop from R2 by inserting your hook and pulling through a loop of yarn.

R1: Ch 1, sc in same st. [Sc] x5 (6)

R2: [Inc] x6 (12)

R3: [Sc] x12 (12)

R4: [Sc, inc] x6 (18) change to metallic embroidery floss or contrasting yarn in last st

R5: [Sl st] x18 (18)

Fasten off invisibly and weave in ends.

Repeat on the other side using the leftover front loops from when we closed up the end.

With the front facing you (colour changes should be on the back), slightly flatten each candy end and tie a piece of white yarn around the base. Tie in a bow and trim ends.

If intended as a hanging ornament, attach a hanging loop to the middle of the candy.
