Tree Ornament Crochet Pattern

Day 2 of the 12 Days of Crochet Christmas is this sweet little tree ornament crochet pattern.

It always feels a bit funny hanging a tree on a tree but the great thing about this one is that you can leave off the hanging loop and it’s free standing. It would look pretty sitting on a shelf or mantle.

The pattern is really quick and easy with no sewing involved. I chose to keep my tree simple by just adding a bell with some extra twine but feel free to embellish it however you like. It would also look nice with 2 different coloured layers – get creative with it.

MATERIALS

(Contains Affiliate Links)

  • DK Weight Yarn in green (I used Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Grass Green)
  • 2.5mm crochet hook
  • Yarn/twine for hanging
  • Optional: 1cm gold bell
  • Stitch marker, yarn needle, scissors

ABBREVIATIONS

  • sc – single crochet
  • inc – increase
  • dc – double crochet
  • sk – skip
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • st/s – stitch/es
  • […] – repeat the instructions in brackets
  • (…) – indicates stitch count at end of round

NOTES

The pattern is written using US terminology and measures approximately 2.75″ (7cm) tall when using the materials listed.

Pieces are worked in a continuous spiral starting with a magic ring unless otherwise specified. Mark the first stitch of each round with a removable stitch marker.

Gauge is not important in this pattern. However, using a different yarn and hook size will change the size of the finished item.

ASSEMBLY

  • Place the top layer on top of the bottom layer.
  • Attach a hanging loop by cutting a length of twine. Fold in half and tie a knot to the length that you would like your hanging loop to be. Thread the folded end onto a yarn needle and bring up through the centre of the bottom layer and again through the centre of the top layer. Embellish as you like (I threaded a small bell onto some extra twine and tied a bow around the hanging loop right at the top of the tree).
