Poinsettia Ornament Crochet Pattern

Crochet poinsettia ornament

Day 6 of the 12 Days of Crochet Christmas is a pretty poinsettia ornament crochet pattern.

Poinsettias always look so festive with their red and green foliage. I tried to go for a more simplified version here with just the two layers and I love that it kind of looks like a star.

I’ve used the picot single crochet stitch for the centre of the red leaves with the rest of the leaves being worked in a combination of simple stitches. The instructions are a little bit wordy but once you do the first leaf the rest should be easy.

MATERIALS

(Contains Affiliate Links)

  • DK weight yarn in yellow, red and dark green (I used Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Mustard Yellow, Pillar Red and Racing Green)
  • 2.5mm crochet hook
  • Yarn/twine for hanging
  • Stitch marker, yarn needle, scissors

ABBREVIATIONS

  • ch – chain
  • sc – single crochet
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • dc – double crochet
  • sk – skip
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • st/s – stitch/es
  • […] – repeat the instructions in brackets
  • (…) – indicates stitch count at end of round

SPECIAL STITCHES

  • PSC – picot single crochet: Insert hook in indicated stitch. [Pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through the 1st loop on your hook] x3. Yarn over and pull through both loops on your hook. Push the ch 3 you just made to the front when you work the next stitch.

NOTES

The pattern is written using US terminology and measures approximately 3″ x 3″ (8cm x 8cm) when using the materials listed.

Pieces are worked in a continuous spiral starting with a magic ring unless otherwise specified. Mark the first stitch of each round with a removable stitch marker.

The leaves are worked around a foundation of single crochets.
