Gift Box Ornament Crochet Pattern

Day 5 of the 12 Days of Crochet Christmas is a little gift box crochet pattern. Not gonna lie, I’m a little obsessed with this one. I love all things miniature and it looks so sweet in the tree plus you can fill it with goodies.
The body of the box is worked in alternating rounds of single crochet spike stitch and single crochet stitches which gives it such a wonderful texture. I’ve also used a technique to create a sharper angle for the base and lid but if this is too tricky, feel free to use just the back loops only.
MATERIALS
(Contains Affiliate Links)
- DK weight yarn in your choice of colour (I used Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Pillar Red)
- 2.5mm crochet hook
- Twine/ribbon/bell for decorating
- Yarn/twine for hanging
- Stitch marker, yarn needle, scissors
ABBREVIATIONS
- ch – chain
- sc – single crochet
- BLO – back loop only
- dc – double crochet
- sl st – slip stitch
- st/s – stitch/es
- […] – repeat the instructions in brackets
- (…) – indicates stitch count at end of round
SPECIAL STITCHES
- 3inc – 3 single crochet in the same stitch
- Single crochet spike stitch (SPsc): Insert hook in indicated stitch, draw up a loop to the height of the stitches of the working row, yarn over, pull yarn through both loops on hook.
NOTES
The pattern is written using US terminology and measures approximately 2″ x 2″ (5cm x 5cm) when using the materials listed.
Pieces are worked in a continuous spiral starting with a magic ring unless otherwise specified. Mark the first stitch of each round with a removable stitch marker.
R6 of the box and R7 of the lid are worked into the back loop and the third loop of the previous single crochet round. This step is optional but helps to create a sharper angle. If you find this too difficult you can just crochet into the back loops only.

Add a hanging loop or nestle it in the tree. Don’t forget to fill it before decorating!
