Mini Rainbow Crochet Pattern

Crochet mini rainbow

In need of a really quick and easy crochet project? Then this mini rainbow crochet pattern is perfect for you! They take less than 30 minutes to make and can be used for bag charms, keychains, magnets, brooches or even garlands.

I based this design off my Rainbow coaster pattern except instead of crocheting a half circle you make an oval which is then folded in half and slip stitched together. Having it double sided makes it nice and sturdy as well as hiding those pesky ends. I’m pretty traditional with my colour choices but feel free to get creative!

NOTES

The pattern is written using US terminology and measures approximately 1.75″ x 1.5″ (4.5cm x 3.5cm) when using the materials listed.

The ch 1 at the beginning of each round does not count as a stitch. Slip stitch into the first stitch of the round to join.

Colour changes take place in the last stitch of the round as described below.

How to change colours in hdc: Yarn over and insert your hook into the last stitch. Yarn over and pull up a loop, 3 loops on hook. Drop your working yarn and pick up the new colour. Draw the new colour through all 3 loops on your hook to finish the stitch.

LET’S GET STARTED!

MINI RAINBOW (starting with blue)

R1: Ch 9, hdc in 2nd ch from hook and next 6 chs, 5 hdc in last ch. Working on other side of ch – 6 hdc, 4 hdc in last ch (22) – change colour to green in last st and sl st to first hdc
R2: Ch 1, hdc-inc in same st, 6 hdc, [hdc-inc] x5, 6 hdc, [hdc-inc] x4 (32) – change colour to yellow in last st and sl st to first hdc
R3: Ch 1, hdc-inc in same st, 7 hdc, [hdc-inc, hdc] x5, 6 hdc, [hdc-inc, hdc] x4 (42) – change colour to red in last st and sl st to first hdc
R4: Ch 1, inc in same st, 8 sc, [inc, 2 sc] x5, 6 sc, [inc, 2 sc] x4 (52)

Fasten off invisibly and weave in ends.

FINISHING

Fold in half matching up the edges. With right side facing you, join red yarn in the corner through the inner loops of both pieces (the back loop of the side facing you and the front loop of the side facing away from you).

Ch 1, sl st in each st to join using only the inner loops.

Fasten off and weave in end.

Your mini rainbow is ready! I hope you enjoyed this pattern.
