Seedling Bookmark Crochet Pattern

Crochet seedling bookmark

Where my book lovers at? I have a fun little scrap buster pattern to share with you today. This seedling bookmark crochet pattern is a super quick and easy make. It only uses a small amount of yarn and there are no ends to weave in, win! It would be great for markets or as a quick handmade gift paired with a book or gift card.

The length of the bookmark is easily adjustable (see Notes section). The instructions below are a good fit for mass market paperbacks.

MATERIALS

  • Worsted weight yarn in green (I used Fiddlesticks Finch 10 ply 100% Cotton in Sage Green and Emerald)
  • 4mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle, scissors

ABBREVIATIONS

  • ch – chain
  • sc – single crochet
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • dc – double crochet
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • st/s – stitch/es
  • […] – repeat the instructions in brackets
  • (…) – indicates stitch count at end of round

NOTES

The pattern is written using US terminology and measures approximately 8.5″ (22cm) long not including the fringe, when using the materials listed.

You can adjust the length of your bookmark by adding or subtracting chains as desired. The best idea is to crochet the number of chains that you want for the length + 7.

Only the sl sts are worked in the back bump only of the chain.

PATTERN

BOOKMARK (green)

R1: Leaving a longer starting tail (approximately 12cm) ch 51, dc in third ch from hook. Dc in next ch, hdc in next, sc in next, sl st in next ch in the back bump only. Ch 6, dc in third ch from hook. Dc in next ch, hdc in next, sc in next, sl st in same ch as previous sl st. [Sl st in the back bump only] x44

Cut the yarn leaving a long tail and pull through the last st.

TIP: If your bookmark is curling and twisting, gently tug on it to stretch out the sl sts.

FINISHING

Cut 2 pieces of green yarn (approximately 12cm), thread the end of one piece onto a yarn needle and bring through the last st leaving equal lengths on both sides of the st. Repeat for the other piece. Tie all loose yarn tails in a knot at the base of the bookmark. Trim tails to desired length (mine were approximately 4cm).

  1. Thank you so much for the seedling bookmark pattern. I plan to make 50 for my granddaughters bridal shower. We will wrap them around luncheon napkins as a favor for our guests!
