Christmas Basket Crochet Pattern

Make gifting fun this festive season with this Christmas basket crochet pattern.

I love gift giving and how a gift is presented just adds another layer of fun to the process. Fill this basket with goodies for a quick gift or use as a festive decor piece.

About the Pattern

This Christmas basket crochet pattern is quick and easy with minimal sewing.

For extra sturdiness, the basket is worked using 2 strands of yarn held together. You can do this by using 2 separate skeins of yarn or a single skein and pull yarn from both the inside and the outside (this is my preferred method).

I’ve included how much of the main colour you need in the materials list. However, you may require more or less depending on the yarn you use and your own personal tension.

Why You’ll Love This Christmas Basket Crochet Pattern

  • Easy gifting: Fill with goodies for a quick gift.
  • Crochet cruise control: Doesn’t require much focus.
  • Beginner friendly: Uses simple stitches with minimal sewing.

Finished Size

The finished basket measures approximately 4.25″ (11cm) tall. Size may vary depending on tension and materials used.

Gauge

Gauge = 4.25″ after R7

Notes

  • The basket is worked in a continuous spiral starting with a magic ring unless otherwise specified. Mark the first stitch of each round with a removable stitch marker.
  • The basket is worked holding 2 strands together throughout.
  • The belt buckle uses a 3.5mm crochet hook and only a single strand of yarn and is worked in the back bump of the chain.

Identifying the Back Bump of a Chain

If you look at the front of your starting chain you will see the front loop and back loop of your chain stitches. Flip your chain over so you’re looking at the back. You will see a line of stitches running down the center, these are the back bumps of each chain.
