The no-sew pocket pal collection just keeps on growing and this little frog will have you hopping for joy!

Frogs have been popular for a while now and once again I’m late to the party. I mean does the world really need another crochet frog? The answer is obviously, yes!

I’ll let you in on a little secret, I used my no-sew bear pattern to create this crochet frog. Instead of ears the bobble stitches are the frogs eyes – I love a multi use pattern.

This crochet frog pattern is quick and easy. Make it without cheeks for a complete no-sew experience or add cheeks for a low-sew option and extra cute factor.

How to Crochet a Frog

This crochet frog pattern is worked in a spiral from the top down.

We’ll begin by chaining 2 and working 6 single crochet into the second chain from hook. This is my preferred starting method when using plush yarn.

A few simple increase and decrease rounds will give our frog shape and the eyes, arms and legs are made up of bobble stitches worked in the front loop only.

Why You’ll Love This Crochet Frog Pattern

  • Basic stitches: Uses mostly single crochet stitches.
  • No-sew: Doesn’t require any sewing aside from hiding ends and adding facial features.
  • Instant gratification: Can be finished in less than an hour.

Finished Size

The finished frog measures approximately 2.5″ (6.5cm) tall. Size may vary depending on tension and materials used.

Gauge

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Use a hook size to match your chosen yarn. Make sure that your stitches are tight enough to prevent stuffing showing through and adjust hook size if necessary.

Notes

  • Pieces are worked in a continuous spiral. Mark the first stitch of each round with a removable stitch marker.
  • All bobble stitches are worked in the front loop only.

Pattern Instructions

Frog (4.5mm hook, green super bulky yarn)

R1: Ch 2, 6 sc in second ch from hook (6)

R2: [Inc] x6 (12)

R3: Sc, inc, FLO bo, inc, [sc, inc] x2, FLO bo, inc, sc, inc (18)

R4-6: [Sc] x18 (18) 3 rounds

Insert safety eyes at the base of each bobble st from R3, approximately 6 sts apart (the top of the eye should overlap the bobble). Make sure that they are even.

R7: [Sc, invdec] x6 (12)

R8: FLO [sc] x12 (12)

Start stuffing and continue to stuff as you go.

R9: 4 sc, FLO bo, 3 sc, FLO bo, 3 sc (12)

R10: [Sc] x12 (12)

R11: 4 sc, FLO bo, 3sc, FLO bo, 3 sc (12)

R12: [Sc, invdec] x4 (8)

Cut the yarn leaving a tail and pull through last st. Weave the yarn tail through the front loops only of the final round and pull to close. Hide the end inside the frog.

Optional: Cheeks (2.5mm hook, pink DK weight yarn, make 2)

R1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)

Fasten off invisibly leaving a long tail for sewing.

Repeat for the second cheek.

Finishing

  • Using black 4 ply yarn or black embroidery floss, sew a mouth between R4 and R5. I made mine 2 sts long and used fabric glue to create a slight curve.
  • If using, sew the cheeks under each eye approximately 1 1/2 sts away from the mouth and 1/2 a st down from the eye.
  • Tie some worsted weight yarn in a bow around the frog’s neck. Trim ends.
