Basic Party Hat Crochet Pattern

Girl wearing a crocheted party hat.

My son is turning 13 in a few days so I thought it was a good time to get this party hat pattern up. I originally shared it over on Instagram for my birthday back in August because every birthday girl/boy needs a party hat right?

The pattern is for the basic party hat including the fun ruffled edging, how you choose to decorate it is up to you!

MATERIALS

  • Worsted Weight Yarn in main colour and ruffle colour
  • 3.5mm crochet hook
  • Stitch marker, yarn needle, scissors
  • Thin elastic
  • Optional: card, glue

STITCHES/ABBREVIATIONS

  • ch – chain
  • sc – single crochet
  • dc – double crochet

Now for the fun part, decorating your hat. I kept mine simple by just adding a pom-pom and 2 rows of surface slip stitching in a contrasting colour.

Add elastic to the sides and you’re ready to party!

Optional: Use some card to make a cone to fit inside the hat to help hold it’s shape. Glue in place.
