Face Scrubby Crochet Pattern

Happy 2023! The New Year is always a good time to set goals and reassess priorities and this face scrubby crochet pattern is helping me do just that.

While I’m not big on goal setting I do want to prioritise myself more this year and be more intentional. This little face scrubby crochet pattern is a win-win! I’m taking care of myself and I’m taking care of the planet at the same time.

Crochet Face Scrubby Benefits

Crochet face scrubbies are washable, reusable and eco-friendly! They take the place of disposable cotton rounds and are perfect for washing your face, applying toner or removing makeup whilst gently exfoliating.

What Yarn Should I Use?

Cotton yarn is a must for these as it’s gentler on the skin, more absorbent and easy to wash and dry – simply throw them in a mesh laundry bag and machine wash (just be sure to check your yarn label for your particular yarn’s care instructions). I used Scheepjes Cahlista as it’s what I had on hand.

Use Your Stash!

These crochet face scrubbies work up so quickly and don’t use very much yarn making them perfect for using up leftover yarn from the end of a larger project.

Face Scrubby Crochet Pattern

Materials

• Worsted weight cotton yarn in colour of your choice (I used Scheepjes Cahlista in Soft Beige)
• 4mm crochet hook
• Yarn needle, scissors

Abbreviations (US Terms)

• ch – chain
• sc – single crochet
• inc – increase
• hdc – half double crochet
• puff st – puff stitch
• SPsc – single crochet spike stitch
• sl st – slip stitch
• st/s – stitch/es
• […] – repeat the instructions in brackets
• (…) – indicates stitch count at end of round

Special Stitches

Puff Stitch: [Yarn over, insert hook in st, yarn over and pull through] x4, you should have 9 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all 9 loops. Ch 1 to close the st.

Single Crochet Spike Stitch: Insert hook into stitch in the round below, draw up a loop to the height of the stitches of the working row, yarn over, pull yarn through both loops on hook.

Finished Size

The finished face scrubby measures approximately 2.5″ x 2.5″ (6.5cm x 6.5cm). Size may vary depending on tension and materials used.

Notes

• Pieces are worked in joined rounds. The chain at the beginning of each round does not count as a stitch.
• Gauge is not important in this pattern. Use a hook size to match your chosen yarn.

LET’S GET STARTED!

Face Scrubby

R1: Ch 4, sl st to first ch to form a loop. Ch 1, [hdc] x10 into the loop, join with sl st to first hdc (10)

R2: Ch 2, [puff st] x10, join with sl st to the top of the first puff st (10 puff sts + 10 chs)

In this next round you’ll be working into the top of the puff st as well as the ch space between each puff st.

R3: Ch 1, [sc, inc] x10 (30)

R4: Ch 1, [2 sc, SPsc] x10, join with sl st to first sc (30)

R5: Ch 1, sl st in same st. Ch 1, [sl st in next st, ch 1] x29, join with sl st in same st as starting ch 1.

Fasten off invisibly to first sl st and weave in ends.
